I had passed my 12^th class with good marks and had applied for various courses in the Delhi University but it was just a chance that I missed a seat by a little percentage and could not gain anywhere in DU. It was probably the worst day of my life. The future was looking dark. I wept & cried a lot. I was not willing to go back to my home as i was scared. One of my friend asked me to talk to my parents, but I refused.

My friend called my father and informed him the status. My father immediately rushed to us in his car. On viewing my father, I hugged him & started crying. My father said nothing. He just smiled. He just patted on my back. He took all of us to our home. He ordered some good food for all of us & we discussed a lot.

I knew my father very well but surprisingly, he looked quite a different person on that day. He was absolutely optimistic with no worries at all. His opinion was that life never ends if one door is closed. In case a door is closed, there is definitely some other door that has been opened, just for you and you have to just make a search for it.

After talking to him, i gained strength & motivation & started Looking up with optimism. I thought of searching the new door that was opened for me. I checked various courses, various entrance tests, but for all of them, one year was to be wasted as the last date for all the courses had passed. We continued our search & soon while surfing the net we found the details of some good Courses of Indira Gandhi Open University.

We spent quite a good time on IGNOU website and talked in depth about various courses. My father & mother were always standing there with smiling faces, giving a moral boost to me. They preached me to Look up and never be sad in my life, whatever the circumstances may be.

Soon we all decided a course that was not only suitable for me but had a good prospect for admission to main colleges in the next year. I applied for the course under the open university. I passed my first year with very good marks and as a result i got the admission in a Delhi University college in the second year of the degree course. It was the most memorable day of my life. It was probably the best day of my life.

Just an year ago i looked so depressed, so sad but the things had changed now in my favour. It was just because my parents had a positive attitude. They had supported me at the worst period of my life and now, i had converted it into the best period of my life. All this had happened because of the power of being #together.

We are the resident of Delhi a big metro city. It’s a beautiful city with wider roads, parks, malls, markets, hotels and every such thing which a resident requires. Metro added a big charm to it few years ago.

But the city has it’s own problems too. It has become the most polluted city of the world. Japan was attacked with nuclear weapons on its two cities i.e. Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Entire world had assumed that Japan will be wiped out of the growth map. But people of Japan were optimistic. Inspite of the massive attacks on their two cities, inspite of deaths of scores of persons, inspite of the large scale devastation due to the nuclear attacks, it still raised its spirits with optimism and with a hope for the future. And the outcome is that Japan now stands amongst the top most countries of the world. The citizens of Japan get visa on arrival and that too, anywhere in the world. Every organization feels proud if it has an employee from Japan. This happened because people of Japan who faced massive attacks on its soul, could come out of the trauma & could raise their mind with optimistic thoughts. In the same way, we must have the positive & optimistic thinking if we want to achieve success in our life.

One of my friend got a big shock of his life when he got the Doctors report that his father had prostate cancer. It was really shocking for the entire family. The PSA was over 4 and it should be with in 2 for any normal person. The biopsy was done & doctors advised the bone scan. Biopsy and  bone scan reports disclosed that the cancer had already reached the bones & already at the third stage. The family was shocked on finding that his life was limited to a maximum of 12 months.

The entire family was shattered on this disclosure. Even we were shocked as it was never ever assumed that a normal looking person could be in such a dangerous stage and that too due to cancer. They all decided to not to disclose about the disease to the patient. They requested doctors concerned to not to reveal the disease to the patient even though everyone knew that it was a LOST BATTLE.   31

Many doses of Chemotherapy were given to him at various hospitals but   they never told him about the disease to the patient. Even though his life was said to be of a maximum of 12 months, the family had already crossed more than two years. After almost three years, the patient came to know that he was suffering from cancer but he was told that it was just the initial stage & so there was nothing to worry. The situation further deteriorated and the Radiation started. The situation was really bad. They knew that they can’t do any more for him and after almost four & a half years he expired.

The crux is that even though they knew that it was the lost battle, that he had a maximum life of 12 months, they still looked up with optimism and with a great hope. The combined optimistic behaviour of the entire family extended his life by almost four times i.e. upto 54 months.

Truly speaking it happened in our own family & the patient was none other than my Grand father who expired in 2008. How & Why Are Butterfly Valves Used ?

A Butterfly Valve is used to control the flow of material through a circular pipe or tube. Typically the material is air, gas, steam, or liquid. Certain dry materials may also be handled through a butterfly valve.

Simply, a butterfly valve consists of a circular disc with its pivot axis at right angles to the direction material is flowing. The valve is made up of a body, seat, disc, stem, and actuator. Each component part is available in a variety of materials called “trim features.” Properly combining trim features to address material handled and environment is important in selecting the correct model valve for its intended service.

Body 

A butterfly valve body can be made of cast iron, ductile iron, aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel and exotic metals. 

Butterfly valves are available in wafer and lug style. Wafer style valves are installed “sandwiched” between pipe flanges. This style of valve is easier to replace or install. However, replacing a wafer valve requires the conveying line to be drained. Once the valve is removed, there is nothing to seal material either upstream or downstream from the removal point.

Lug style valves contain tapped holes that allow them to be bolted directly to a mating flange. In the closed position, the valve independently seals material to the upstream and downstream side. Because of this independent sealing, lug valves may be used to isolate downstream equipment that may require replacement or maintenance.

Seat 

Resilient seated valves are the most commonly used types. The interior of the valve body is lined with an elastomer seat. Seats may be made of EPDM, buna, viton, Teflon, natural rubber, carbox, chlorbutyl, white buna, or white neoprene as well as other materials. Choice of seat material depends on temperatures, pressures and material handled.

The seats of some inexpensive butterfly valves are typically molded into the body and cannot be repaired or replaced. Precision butterfly valves typically contain removable seats that are repairable or replaceable.

Disc 

The valve disc (controlled by the actuator) regulates the flow of material within the conveying line. Disc materials are available to meet a variety of application demands: stainless steel, aluminum/bronze, ductile iron, ductile/epoxy coated, ductile/nickel plated, ductile/nylon II coated as well as others. As the disc is directly in the material flow stream, care must be taken in specifying the proper material of construction and disc shape. Some discs are designed to allow increased flow patterns through the piping.

Stem 

The stem passes through the center of the valve, attaches to the actuator, and positions the disc for material flow control and shut off. Depending on the application and valve size, stems may be one or two-piece construction. Typical materials of construction include carbon steel and different grades of stainless steel.

Actuator 

A variety of actuators are available for butterfly valves: manual handle, gear, pneumatic, electric and electro-hydraulic. Also, actuators that may be enclosed in special housings and buried are available for certain underground applications.

Other considerations 

Depending on the application, additional valve features that may need to be considered. Some of these features include: the manner in which the stem and disc are attached, the way the stem and disc assembly mount inside the valve body, undercutting of disc, type of material used in stem bushings and packing, and availability of a ring seal between the seat and valve body.

Working with a company that can offer and properly apply a variety of trim features will enhance the success of the butterfly valve in a specific application.

Applications

As stated earlier, Butterfly Valves are generally specified for most air, gas, steam, and liquid applications. They offer an excellent, economically priced, positive shut-off valve for handling materials (e.g. gases and liquids) that are easily displaced by the valve disc as it closes. When handling this type of material, butterfly valves provide a reliable, bubble-tight, bi-directional shut off.

Care must be taken when applying a butterfly valve in semi-abrasive or abrasive dry material applications (this includes slurry applications that contain suspended particles because: 

1) A valve disc closing on dry bulk material will create premature wear to the rubber seat. 

2) The obstructed orifice created by the disc may cause bridging of material on the inlet side of the valve. 

3) A disc opening or closing on a standing column of dry material may cause the material to jam / pack. 

4) Particles of dry material or suspended particles in slurries may become trapped between the disc and seat, causing conveying line inefficiencies.

Other Types of Butterfly Valves

As a person becomes familiar with butterfly valves, they will undoubtedly discover other types of butterfly valves on the market. Listed below is a brief introduction to some of these other types.

Inflatable Seated Butterfly Valves

Inflatable seated butterfly valves utilize an inflatable seat or bladder to create a seal around the disc. Once the disc is brought to the closed position, the bladder is inflated pneumatically.

Pros: 

1) Since the seal is created after the disc closes, less torque is required to move the disc into the closed position. A smaller sized actuator costing less money is can be used.

2) Again, because the seal is created after the disc closes, minimal abrasion exists between the disc and the seat.

Cons: 

1) In addition to the controls needed to verify the position of the disc, additional controls are needed to identify whether the bladder is inflated or not. These controls add cost to the valve.

2) The bladder may be damaged and not creating a seal, even though controls identify that a seal has been established.

3) The valve must be located near an air supply to pneumatically inflate the bladder. 

4) The inflatable bladder is subject to damage and abrasion, requiring periodic replacement.

High Performance -- Double Offset Butterfly Valve

This type of butterfly valve is ideal for applications involving higher temperatures (up to 1200º F) and higher pressures (up to 1440 psig). The disc and stem are double offset, causing the disc to “cam” into place upon closure.

Pros:

1) A reliable butterfly valve for handling higher temperature and pressure applications.

Cons:

1) Cost -- considerably more expensive than standard butterfly valves.

High Performance -- Triple Offset Butterfly Valve

This type of butterfly valve is often used in refinery and off shore applications where more extreme conditions exist. Most triple offsets utilize a metal on metal seat and disc closure, are rated up to 600# class, and are fire safe.

Pros:

1) A reliable valve for extreme applications.

Cons:

1) Cost -- more expensive than the double-offset butterfly valve.

The double and triple offset butterfly valves are specialized valves for extreme applications.

Robotic Finishing Machine Blasts Shot or Grit

Guyson Corp. has introduced a new version of its RB-RSSA-8 robotic blast system and has customized it according to the special requirements for cleaning and surface preparation of machined aerospace castings using either shot or grit media.

The new variant of the long-established model has a Fanuc Robotics LR Mate-200iD 6-axis robot mounted on the reinforced back wall of the blast chamber, a position that allows greater reach and motion capability to accommodate the range of components to be processed by the customer. In previous versions, a larger robot is mounted on a pedestal or hung from the roof of the cabinet.

A 24-inch diameter turntable is adapted to accept the component-holding fixtures for all parts to be blasted and is servomotor-driven, so the radial orientation of the component is coordinated as a seventh axis by the robot’s R-30iB controller. A jib crane mounted on the roof of the blast enclosure and a rubber-flapped crane slot facilitate loading of heavy parts onto the table, which is designed with a weight capacity of 250 pounds.

THE DRY ICE BLASTER TECHNOLOGY

How it works The dry ice blasting uses small pellets of dry ice sprayed through a jet nozzle with compressed air to remove paints, oil, grease, dirt,ink, adhesives and other materials you want to remove. The frigid temperature of the dry ice against the dirty surface causes adhesion to shrink and loosen from the surface. On immediate impact, the dry ice evaporates into environmentally safe and innocuous CO2 gas. The kinetic energy ( E = ½ mv 2) The energy associated to the mass and to the speed is transferred to the surface to be cleaned / coating removal. This is the fundamental way to work either with this dry ice method or with sand / water etc. Thermal differential When the dry ice pellets cold touch the surface, a small thermic difference occurs between the coating material, the contaminant and the substrate. This provokes cracks and the detaching facilitating the removal process. Micro – Explosion When the dry ice touches the surface and it transforms into innocuous CO2 gas, , this tends to invade the cracks and the pores penetrating into the coating / contaminant.Then it warms up and it expands rapidly and it makes the coating / contaminant detaching from the substrate, favouring still further the coating removal or the cleaning process. Sublimation With an inferior pressure at 5.2 bar, the solid CO2 transforms directly in gaseous state without turning into the Liquid state. But if the blasting pressure is superior at 5.2 bar ( 5.2 x 14.7 = 76.44 psi ),the CO2 in the sublimation state will show some characteristics of the Liquid CO2 while the same reaches its "triple point". Has been proved that the Liquid CO2 is a strong organic solvent so it is reasonable to suppose that this solvent action can be present when the blasting pressure is superior at 5.2 bar.

Banega Swachh India !

NDTV & Dettol alongwith Amitabh Bachchan have launched a mega campaign, Banega Swachh India, under the banner of CLEANATHON. It’s a great work being done by them.

The truth is that cleanliness in India is in a very very shocking & sad state and the situation is really very grim. Hindustan Times in it’s news report has just mentioned that, “ Swachh Bharat : just 20% of the Urban waste gets treated properly“. Isn’t it shocking & sad to know that since last 65 year’s we could not generate such infrastructure to treat even our own urban waste, properly. The news story can be read from the LINK.

If we are treating just 20% of our urban waste than what’s about the rest of the 80% of the urban waste ? What’s about the rural waste ? Don’t know what our Pollution watch dog : Central Pollution Control Board is doing.

Have you seen the dirty garbage dumps at various corners of your city. These are not properly cleared and not even properly segregated for treatment. These are a major cause of pollution & responsible for various kind of diseases to the masses. But we never care for it as it has become a routine for us. We have developed a habit of CHALTA HAI & so every thing continues in it's own manner even if it's absolutely wrong.

But, thanks to National Green Tribunal that is taking real interest in it. It has just asked from all the Municipal bodies that why they are failing to enforce the guidelines of the Municipal Solid Wastes ( Management and Handling) Rules, 2000 that provides for proper segregation and disposal of the waste generated in cities.

Toilet for Babli !

Defacating in the open is a normal view in the villages as they don't have a toilet in the homes. But the shocking thing is that even in the big cities, even in the metro cities or even in the national capital, there are many who are regularly defacating in the open. If you can't believe :

1.Just board any train & the minute it starts running, you will found dozens n dozens of persons defacating in the open, on the rails making it the biggest open loo worldwide. 

2. Just go to any public place nearing any low lying colony & you will see the human dung everywhere and you will be forced to use a hanky to cover your nose.

It's true that most of the houses in the lower colonies of cities don't have a Toilet in their homes and they are forced to defacate in the open before its dawn. But the shocking fact is that, due to lack of awareness from the Govt agencies, no body has cared for it since years. It's not just that they don't have a Loo in their homes, but it is a pity that they don't have even proper education to understand the gravity of the situation.

The situation is even worst in villages. With no sanitation facilities, with no information on the term HYGIENE, with no drainage systems, with lack of water everywhere, in the absence of primary schools for the education of childrens, life has become a hell. 

The present Govt has shown great interest in it. The Swach bharat yojna & the next awareness campaign on having a LOO in the homes will definitely make an impact on the minds of persons living in the villages as well in the low lying colonies of big cities.

Govt must offer money for making Toilets in the villages so that the residents could get a better life. Govt must make Public toilets in villages with all the neat & clean facilities so that the persons living there could change their habit of defacating in the open.

MY DREAM 24K HOME WITH PORCELANOSA !

Yeah ! I want a beautiful home, a home which is exactly as per my wishes, my likes & my choice. A home that i can love n feel delighted. I want the best of everything in that. Be it the building systems, wall tiles, floor tiles, kitchen, bathroom as well the wardrobes alongwith the best of furniture. Luckily i found the astonishing website :

A HEALTHY CHILD MAKES A HAPPY HOME !

We are the proud parents. We try our best to offer the quality food & education to our kids. But being the working parents we don't have much time for them. Most of us have to leave for our job in the morning & we are back only by evening and that too very tired.

Being nuclear families, we generally don't have anyone behind to take care of our kids and therefore we appoint a maid to take care of the child.   

This lack of attention to the kids makes them vulnerable. They eat what ever they like. They prefer the Junk food, be it a Pizza or Burger alongwith Soft drinks & Ice cream.

They don't go for playing in the ground, instead, they play on computers. They don't talk to the friends, face to face, instead they chat amongst themselves.

And the outcome is obese kids with specs on eyes with no control on BMI. Kids get severe problems such as Sugar & High Blood pressure. And in such a situation, we are forced to leave our business or job & look after the child. It transforms the so called happy home into a troubled home.

It’s a real story of one of my close friend. Now his wife has left her job & she is now looking after the kid carefully. But don’t you think that they are facing this situation for their own mistakes ?

In my opinion, if we have given birth to a child, it is solely our responsibility to look after them & to make them healthy & wise. In case we don’t have much time, still we can keep an eye on their habits. We can keep a check on their diet. Atleast on Sundays & holidays, we can pass the day with them & understand their problems & issues.
